Governor Announces District Attorney Appointment Process in Wheeler County
(Salem) – Governor Ted Kulongoski announced today that he is accepting applications for a district attorney vacancy in Wheeler County. The Wheeler County vacancy results from the recall of District Attorney Thomas W. Cutsforth, effective July 17, 2008. The Governor thanked District Attorney Cutsforth for his more than 18 years of loyal service to the State and Wheeler County. The position will be filled by appointment.
Governor Kulongoski fills district attorney vacancies based on merit and encourages applications from lawyers with a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences. ORS 8.630 and 8.640 provide the qualifications required for appointment as a district attorney. Applicants are not required to reside in Wheeler County. Attorneys interested in being considered for appointment to either position must submit an Interest Form for Judicial Appointments to the Governor’s office. The Interest Form for Judicial Appointments is available online at www.governor.oregon.gov.
The deadline for the Interest Form is 5:00 p.m. on Monday, August 18, 2008. Interested applicants should mail or deliver the forms to: Kelly Skye, General Counsel, Office of the Governor, 900 Court Street NE, Salem, OR 97301-4047.
